As part of a personal design challenge, Pat started writing down one new idea for a game theme or mechanic every day. Over 100 days in his notebook is starting to fill up with more ideas than the GG team has time to execute. The great benefit is that each idea helps to spark ideas that can enhance and improve games that are already in process and in some cases is helping to revive old ideas that were collecting dust on the shelf.
To that end Restaurateur may be making a comeback in the next few months and perhaps Goblin Toboggan will be coming back into the play testing rotation. In the meantime work continues on Faux-berge Chickens (aka Gem Hens/Faberge Chickens) and Mountains Out of Molehills. For Mountains Out of Molehills we are testing a few additional rules that can be added to the game for a changing experience and additional strategy for experienced players.
The spell system for Spirit of the Trees is starting to get more refined and Jim and Pat are working on creating and balancing multiple paths to victory to ensure players have a variety of interesting strategic choices. We are focused on keeping the essence of the game while enhancing the fun and challenge of this game.
A variant of Spell Bound Books is proving interesting and reducing analysis paralysis. Each board is reduced from 32 to 16 containers, helping players more rapidly assess their move options. At the same time the game does not feel any more restrictive or slow paced. We feel this version is much more accessible and promotes player interaction.
Frankenstein Academy continues to run smoothly in playtesting. At this stage Pat is mostly refining minor details, but is happy with the overall mechanics and experience of the game.

If all that is not enough; Jim and Pat have a new game in development called "Action News Team: 12 hour news cycle." Imagine worker placement game about rookie local news teams rushing around the city to collect the most interesting stories in time to fill their daily broadcasts. The stories are designed to be comical, while the time based mechanics system requires planning and careful decision making. Players seek to maximize ratings, and income from commercial airtime in order to finance station upgrades. The news team that can become the local favorite with the highest overall ratings after 4 broadcasts will win the day.
