While demoing Goblin Toboggan at the San Diego UnPub mini event I was observing another prototype game and as the demo was approaching an end it became too clear who was going to win before the game was over. This observation made me realize that the end game and win condition for Goblin Toboggan were a weakness of the design. Later that day on my drive home I had a brainstorm for a scoring system that has now been tested and adds a lot of additional fun to the game. Instead of winning simply by crossing the finish line first, players earn points in 3 ways, by their position when they finish the race, by navigating through slalom gates, and by stealing knockdown tokens from opponents by knocking them down. The scoring system adds some new strategies, and introduced slalom tiles, and yeti tiles which steal cards from any player who enters them. Some minor adjustments to the mischief cards were also made. |
