Faberge chickens
Two publishers we connected with at GenCon are continuing to playtest and consider publishing Faberge Chickens, which is incredibly exciting! We recently agreed to give one of those publishers first right of refusal as they plan to develop a higher end prototype after Essen. We can hardly wait to see how it turns out, and to hear what their reviewers think of it. During the process we received some feedback about the end of game scoring (a bit math-y) and a request to explore variable player powers. We have been tinkering with these suggestions carefully as we hope to preserve the elements that have made this game so appealing, while simultaneously ensure it is the best game it can be. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on this journey.
Flipyard shipyard
Pat is extremely happy with the core mechanics of Flipyard at this point, and has shared the latest rules with a few publishers for feedback. In the meantime play testing and fine tuning continue. A recent run through with some of the other game designers here in San Diego helped streamline a few elements, including the container movements. In addition the business strategy cards and market condition actions are being updated to remove a few that players are not finding useful and to add a few new ones that have been requested during testing.
New Projects
We developed a micro-game for the Hasbro design contest called "May I have a Word?" We have heard that the competition received a LOT of entries, so we may not hear back, but we may decided to move forward with additional development anyway.
In addition, we have also been tossing ideas around for a new game, working title "Spirit of the Forest." The game is theme first, so while we have a story in mind, the mechanics are still coming together. At the moment it is developing into what we hope will be a somewhat new approach to a worker placement mechanic. We are aiming to get something workable to start testing the ideas soon.
